Welcome to our first issue of Arkansas Style and Tech Reader! We are still experimenting and trying out different approaches to doing this. In this issue we present you with a special comic-book style issue. The cover features longtime local emcee Trey "Thanos the Mad Titan" Wilbourn, from the The 4817 Show on local community radio station KABF 88.3FM. The show airs Saturdays 7-10:pm, and you can stream it from out-of-town on your mobile device, via the TuneIn app, by searching "KABF." The articles this time come from people who make their own music, three of which are from Little Rock, one from Baltimore, and one from New York. Please enjoy these five perspectives on what it means to have cool gear.
Our first article mixes style and technology in an interview with Bryan Frazier. You can read all about his credentials in the article, but suffice it to say he stays very busy doing a lot of awesome things around the city of Little Rock. The one thing that may not have been emphasized enough is a project he has worked really hard on, which is his Capitol View Studio. This is an awesome place to check out, no matter if you swing by, check out their website, or look them up on Facebook for some pics. Use the QR code in the article if you need help finding it. For real be sure and check that out. It's very rad!
Article two is by a part-time co-host of the 4817 radio show, Derek "iLL_chemist" Brooks. This is a retro technology article. It focuses on what he finds rad about his favorite games from the original vintage Nintendo Entertainment System. He has promised to make this a series and bring back more discussions of other consoles in futures issues. Derek is an avid gamer, a music enthusiastic, an emcee, a chemist, and a guy who frequently volunteers around the Little Rock community.
The third article for this issue is an interview with a legendary underground hip-hop producer and emcee. This guy has put in some serious work mashing very hard on multiple technological devices. He definitely knows his way around a lot of knobs, buttons, and faders. So we connected with the musical technician to get a guided tour of his laboratory operations. We also break it down to ask him about his clothes and even what type of party he rocks. As usual, we have a QR code on the cover to connect you directly with the world of the artist.
Article four is about fashion. It comes from another guy that is ridiculously busy in the Little Rock community, Ron "Ron Mc" Mcadoo, from Backyard entertainment. He is well-known for his signature look as well as being an incredible teacher who builds with the youth. He is always willing to contribute to any enriching activities, no matter if it's performing music free, contributing to public discussions, teaching dance, or any number of cool things he can be found doing. There is a QR code on this article if you are interested in going deeper into this guy's world. It's a nice world to visit for sure! In this article he tells us about his experiences from being on a panel discussion regarding hip-hop attire.
The last article for this issue is with one of the coolest and most laid back dudes you could ever meet. He is a dynamic performer with a very interesting approach to style and technology. But we didn't know just how interesting his approach was until we asked him about his ultimate pool party, and his favorite outfit. Height always tends to have an interesting but relatable perspective on his experiences as a guy who exists between worlds. He has been booked with, and collaborated with, rock bands. But HEIGHT raps, and his style is very much his own. He has a unique way of referencing old school hip-hop, yet managing to be something else entirely. He is an entity that draws in the atmosphere of the hundreds of venues he has soaked up and been informed by in his adventures. One thing he never ever fails to do is show love and support for all his fellow artists and everyone he meets on tour.
